Repair & Recovery
KPV
Also published as Lys-Pro-Val, alpha-MSH (11-13)
The three residue C-terminal tail of alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone. It carries much of the anti-inflammatory signalling attributed to the parent hormone without the pigmentation activity, which is why it appears in gut and skin research rather than melanocortin research.
Where it came from
Identified through fragment mapping of alpha-MSH from the 1990s onward, with a concentration of published work in colitis and dermatological models.
What the literature examines
- NF-kB and pro-inflammatory cytokine signalling in vitro
- Chemically induced colitis models in mice
- PepT1 mediated transport into intestinal epithelial cells
- Topical application in dermatitis and wound models
- Antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus in culture
State of the evidence
Consistent, reproducible in vitro and rodent data across several independent groups. No registered human trials.
What a buyer should know
The colitis literature is oral and topical. The injectable presentation this trade sells is not the route most of the supporting research used, and that distinction gets lost constantly in vendor copy.
Handling and stability
Small, water soluble, and stable relative to longer peptides. Lyophilised powder as supplied.
Sequence
Lys-Pro-Val
