A synthetic analogue of the ACTH(4-10) fragment with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail added to slow enzymatic breakdown. It has none of the corticotropic activity of the parent hormone.
Where it came from
Developed in the Soviet Union and Russia from the 1980s, and registered as a medicine in the Russian Federation for cerebrovascular and cognitive indications.

State of the evidence
Registered as a prescription medicine in Russia and supported by Russian clinical work, with almost no Western replication.
What a buyer should know
Registration in one country is a regulatory fact, not an evidence standard. The trials underpinning Semax are largely Russian language, and have not been reproduced under EMA or FDA style trial design. Treat the two facts separately.
Handling and stability
Water soluble. Frequently supplied for intranasal formulation in the research literature, which is not the same as the injectable presentation sold in this trade.
